Our 5/4 x 6 Eased Edge Garapa decking is the most popular way to get real tropical hardwood performance at a more accessible price. Garapa — sometimes called Brazilian Blonde — is a South American hardwood with a warm golden color, impressive 1,686 lbf Janka hardness, and a natural outdoor lifespan of 25–40 years.

About Garapa:
Garapa delivers most of the performance benefits of Ipe — natural rot resistance, insect resistance, splinter-free surface, no need for chemical treatments — at a meaningfully lower cost. Its lighter golden-blonde color brightens outdoor spaces and coordinates beautifully with modern architectural styles that call for lighter wood tones.

Specifications:

  • Nominal dimensions: 5/4 x 6
  • Actual dimensions: approximately 1″ x 5½”
  • Profile: Eased Edge (E4E)
  • Random lengths: 6–18 feet
  • Species: Garapa (Apuleia leiocarpa), also known as Brazilian Ash or Brazilian Blonde
  • Janka hardness: 1,686 lbf
  • Natural lifespan: 25–40 years outdoors
  • Color: Warm golden-blonde; weathers to silver-gray if left untreated

Installation: Pre-drilling is recommended but Garapa’s slightly lower density makes it more workable than Ipe. Use stainless steel fasteners and seal all cut ends. For hidden fastener installation, choose our 5/4×6 Pregrooved Garapa.

Applications: Residential decks, pool surrounds, dock decking, siding, outdoor furniture and structures.

Sold by the linear foot. Specific board lengths available in our Garapa specific lengths listing.
