Our 1 x 6 Eased Edge Ipê is the most popular residential decking profile we sell — and for good reason. The 1×6 dimension gives you the ideal balance of coverage, structural performance, and classic deck appearance, while the eased-edge profile (smooth, rounded corners on both faces) creates a clean, professional look whether you’re face-screwing or using plug systems.
About Ipe (pronounced “ee-pay”):
Ipe is a South American tropical hardwood with a Janka hardness rating of 3,684 lbf — nearly three times harder than Red Oak and harder than virtually any composite or PVC decking on the market. It carries a Class A fire rating, resists rot and insects without chemical treatment, and routinely lasts 75 years or more in outdoor applications.
Specifications:
- Nominal dimensions: 1 x 6
- Actual dimensions: approximately ¾” x 5½”
- Profile: Eased Edge (E4E) — smooth rounded edges on both sides
- Random lengths: 6–18 feet (mixed as available)
- Species: Ipê (Handroanthus spp.), also known as Brazilian Walnut
- Janka hardness: 3,684 lbf
- Natural lifespan: 75+ years outdoors
- Fire rating: Class A
Installation notes: Pre-drilling is required due to Ipe’s extreme density. Use carbide-tipped drill bits and stainless steel fasteners to prevent corrosion staining. Seal all cut ends with an end-grain sealer at installation. For a hidden fastener look, choose our 1×6 Pregrooved Ipe instead.
Maintenance: Ipe requires no sealing or staining to perform. Left untreated, it weathers to a distinguished silver-gray patina. To maintain the original rich brown color, apply a UV-protective penetrating oil annually.
Sold by the linear foot. Price shown is per linear foot. Random lengths ship as available; specific board lengths are available in our 1×6 Ipe specific lengths listing.
